Brief History of Derek DeGrate


Derek DeGrate has one cool Son! (who is also a bass guitarist and drummer) Derek DeGrate was born into a musical family which his two brothers are part of the legendary multi-platinum vocal group; Jodeci. His father is a world renowned gospel artist. Derek DeGrate began singing harmony at the age of 5 years old and began writing songs and playing multiple musical instruments at the age of 6 years old. Derek DeGrate got his major music industry start at the age of 9 years old Playing bass guitar for the band formed by he and his brothers: "Don Jr. and the Jr flips" then at the afe of 16 years old; playing bass guitar for Tammy sue Bakker ( the daughter of famed TV show hosts; Jim and Tammy faye Bakker.) Derek DeGrate then moved on to being part of Gospel Group; Don DeGrate and Strong tower; which Derek was songwriter for the group as well.; with 3 of his songs being charted in the top 40 national southern gospel  music charts.  Derek DeGrate has been featured on several projects as bass guitarist and Bass guitar composer; including Jodeci's "fun 2 nite and the motion picture soundtrack; "strictly business" (starring Halle Berry) Derek DeGrate also worked on several other projects including reference vocal work forMichael Jackson (through the production of Derek's brother; DeVante). Derek DeGrate ireleased 3 solo music projects as a solo recording artist (titled; "The other brother, "the other brother part 2" and "MOVING FORWARD"!). Derek DeGrate serves as CEO of his own Record Label which Currently Derek is only focused on songwriting, music instrumentation and music production.

Current Projects


Derek DeGrate  is currently  taking a rest from his career as a solo recording artist; and is now only focused on songwriting, musical instrumentation, vocal arrangement and music production;  mainly for acts on his own record label; which Derek serves as CEO of his own record label; DuffStuff Records. The latest project is the production of a new inspirational female trio called; Sunflower South (scheduled for a 2019 spring release).
